No code? Your money comes back.

Xbox will not let you finish without a phone number. No code, no charge: you pay nothing for a number that never receives one. SMS For U rents you a real one: pick a market, put the number into Xbox, and the Xbox code lands in your account seconds after Xbox sends it. Xbox is one of 2,400 services in the catalogue, with numbers from Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa.

How you get your code

  1. Look Xbox up in the SMS For U catalogue.
  2. Take a country from the ones the app is offering for Xbox today.
  3. Confirm the order; the Xbox number is live from that second.
  4. Type it in at the phone verification step in your profile on Xbox and ask to be sent the code.
  5. The code turns up in your SMS For U account unprompted. Copy it into Xbox and you are through.

Why a phone number is asked for

Xbox uses the phone number as a second factor: it is what stands between your library and somebody who has your password. Xbox does not ask during sign-up: the number is added later, in the account settings. The number goes in at: the phone verification step in your profile. Xbox can ask for the same number again later, on a new device, after a password change or during a routine check. Bear that in mind before you tie an account to a number you will not have access to in a month.

What the code looks like

Xbox sends a short numeric code by SMS. The message from Xbox arrives in your account unaided: no refreshing, no forwarding, and no second device involved in reading the Xbox code. The window Xbox allows is short, so do not leave the code sitting in your account. One number can usually serve more than one Xbox account, although Xbox may limit that.

What can go wrong

Xbox accepts numbers from many countries but not from all of them. Which countries work for Xbox changes over time, because Xbox adjusts its checks and because the available ranges of numbers change. That is the honest state of it: we can hand you a number, we cannot make Xbox take it. We do not claim Xbox will take any given number, and we print no percentage, since a number like that would be stale within hours of being written.

Countries we serve

We work in the 50 markets set out below, and a Xbox number can come from any of them at one time or another. That is a map of our reach, not a stock report: what is free for Xbox moves hour by hour as ranges are spent and replenished. Before you count on a particular market for Xbox, look at the country screen in the app, which is the one place this question has a current answer.

Common questions

How do I get a Xbox verification code without my own SIM card?

Open SMS For U, search for Xbox and pick a country. You get a real phone number, you enter it at Xbox (the phone verification step in your profile), and the code Xbox sends appears in your SMS For U account by itself. No SIM card is involved, and the Xbox number is not yours to keep.

How fast does the Xbox code arrive?

The Xbox code appears in your account within seconds of Xbox sending it. How long Xbox itself takes is up to Xbox and to the country the number comes from, which is why nothing here is worded as a promise.

What happens if no Xbox code arrives?

You do not pay for a Xbox number that brought no code. Cancel the order in the app and the payment is refunded as soon as the cancellation is confirmed. That is the whole rule, and it is why a failed Xbox attempt costs nothing: no code, no charge.

Which countries can I use for Xbox?

Xbox numbers come from the 50 markets listed on this page. Which of them can be picked for Xbox at this moment is on the country screen in the app: that list moves through the day, and a page in a search index cannot keep up with it.

Can I use the same number for Xbox again later?

Sometimes. Xbox can ask for the same number again on a new device, and a used Xbox number is not reserved for you indefinitely. If you need lasting access to a Xbox account, use a number of your own.

No code, no charge

You do not pay for a number that brought no code. If nothing arrives, cancel the order in the app; the payment is refunded as soon as the cancellation is confirmed. While it is being checked, the amount stays reserved rather than spent.

Cancelling is possible after a short wait at the start of an order: a number needs a moment before it can be reached at all, and a cancellation in the first seconds would be refused anyway.

If a number has already received one code and you need a second one, you can ask for another SMS on the same number. That is a separate, chargeable attempt and it is not refunded even if no second code arrives; the app shows what it costs before you confirm. There is no subscription: you pay per number, never per minute and never per month.

What this is not for

Do not use these numbers for banks, payment services, wallets or crypto exchanges. Those are excluded, and an account resting on a number that is not permanently yours is an account you can lose. The same goes for anything you need access to for years: government portals, tax accounts, insurance. A temporary number is for a one-off confirmation, not a lasting key to something important.
