No code? Your money comes back.

There is a phone-number wall in front of LinkedIn, and this is the way through it. No code, no charge: a number that brings none is never billed. Rent one for the moment you need it: choose where it should come from, type it into LinkedIn, and read the LinkedIn code straight out of your SMS For U account. Behind that sit 1,400 services and numbers bought in markets on four continents.

How you get your code

  1. Look LinkedIn up in the SMS For U catalogue.
  2. Take a country from the ones the app is offering for LinkedIn today.
  3. Confirm the order; the LinkedIn number is live from that second.
  4. Type it in at Settings → Sign in & security → Phone numbers on LinkedIn and ask to be sent the code.
  5. The code turns up in your SMS For U account unprompted — copy it into LinkedIn and you are through.

Why a phone number is asked for

LinkedIn asks for a phone number to show that a profile belongs to somebody, and to keep a way back in when the password is gone. LinkedIn does not ask during sign-up: the number is added later, in the account settings. The number goes in at: Settings → Sign in & security → Phone numbers. LinkedIn normally asks for the number once and does not come back to it afterwards.

What the code looks like

LinkedIn sends a 6-digit code by SMS. Whatever LinkedIn texts to the number is delivered into your SMS For U account automatically, a few seconds behind LinkedIn, with nothing to forward. Codes from LinkedIn go stale fast; use it as soon as it lands rather than later. One number can usually serve more than one LinkedIn account, although LinkedIn may limit that.

What can go wrong

LinkedIn accepts numbers from many countries but not from all of them. Which countries work for LinkedIn changes over time, because LinkedIn adjusts its checks and because the available ranges of numbers change. That is the honest state of it — we can hand you a number, we cannot make LinkedIn take it. Nothing on this page is a promise that LinkedIn will accept a number, and no success figure is printed here, because any figure would be out of date by the time you read it.

Countries we serve

Below are the 50 markets we hold numbers in, LinkedIn included. Treat them as our footprint rather than as today’s shelf: ranges run dry and are topped up again while you read this, so a market listed here may be unavailable for LinkedIn within the hour. The country screen in the app is where that question is answered honestly for LinkedIn, because it is the only thing that updates as fast as the ranges do.

Common questions

How do I get a LinkedIn verification code without my own SIM card?

Open SMS For U, search for LinkedIn and pick a country. You get a real phone number, you enter it at LinkedIn (Settings → Sign in & security → Phone numbers), and the code LinkedIn sends appears in your SMS For U account by itself. No SIM card is involved, and the LinkedIn number is not yours to keep.

How fast does the LinkedIn code arrive?

The LinkedIn code appears in your account within seconds of LinkedIn sending it. How long LinkedIn itself takes is up to LinkedIn and to the country the number comes from, which is why nothing here is worded as a promise.

What happens if no LinkedIn code arrives?

You do not pay for a LinkedIn number that brought no code. Cancel the order in the app and the payment is refunded as soon as the cancellation is confirmed. That is the whole rule, and it is why a failed LinkedIn attempt costs nothing: no code, no charge.

Which countries can I use for LinkedIn?

LinkedIn numbers come from the 50 markets listed on this page. Which of them can be picked for LinkedIn at this moment is on the country screen in the app: that list moves through the day, and a page in a search index cannot keep up with it.

Can I use the same number for LinkedIn again later?

A used LinkedIn number is not reserved for you indefinitely. LinkedIn normally does not come back to it after sign-up, but if you need lasting access to the LinkedIn account, use a number of your own.

No code, no charge

You do not pay for a number that brought no code. If nothing arrives, cancel the order in the app; the payment is refunded as soon as the cancellation is confirmed. While it is being checked, the amount stays reserved rather than spent.

Cancelling is possible after a short wait at the start of an order — a number needs a moment before it can be reached at all, and a cancellation in the first seconds would be refused anyway.

If a number has already received one code and you need a second one, you can ask for another SMS on the same number. That is a separate, chargeable attempt and it is not refunded even if no second code arrives; the app shows what it costs before you confirm. There is no subscription: you pay per number, never per minute and never per month.

What this is not for

Do not use these numbers for banks, payment services, wallets or crypto exchanges. Those are excluded — and an account resting on a number that is not permanently yours is an account you can lose. The same goes for anything you need access to for years: government portals, tax accounts, insurance. A temporary number is for a one-off confirmation, not a lasting key to something important.
