Hinge not sending your verification code?

Hinge checks every account by text. When the code stays away, the reason is usually on the number's side.

No code? Your money comes back.

Hinge sends its sign-up code by SMS from a short code, and it cannot confirm a number by hand. When the code does not come, check the number you typed, whether your carrier blocks short codes, and whether repeated tries have locked you out. There is no way to create a Hinge account without a phone number.

How Hinge uses your phone number

Your number is the first thing Hinge asks for, before photos or prompts. Hinge's help centre says every member has to verify the account with a mobile number, and only then can you add other ways to log in.

  1. Tap Create Account Enter your mobile number with the right country code.
  2. Type the SMS code Hinge texts a confirmation code to that number. Enter it to continue.
  3. Link an e-mail address Hinge mails a second code to confirm the address.
  4. Optional: connect Apple or Google Under Settings → Connected Accounts you can add Apple or Google as a login. Facebook login no longer works on Hinge.

Hinge won't send the verification code: what to check

What to do
A digit is wrong or missingCompare every digit and the country code, then request the code again
The number does not fit in the fieldLeave out the trunk digit after the country code, usually a 0 or a 1
Your carrier filters short codesAsk your carrier to switch off message blocking for SMS short codes
You are on a prepaid planSome prepaid plans do not receive short-code texts; ask your provider
You tried many times in a rowWait at least 24 hours; Hinge cannot lift the lock early
Your app is out of dateUpdate Hinge, then start the verification again

Hinge says it cannot validate a number manually, so its support team cannot send the code for you.

Can you use Hinge without a phone number?

No. Every route into Hinge starts with the number. Apple and Google logins are added after the phone and e-mail are linked, so they do not replace it. The Facebook login that once worked around this is gone.

If you would rather not hand your everyday number to a dating app, the real choice is which number you use, not whether you use one. Weigh that against the next section first.

Why some numbers are refused

  • Hinge is strict with number ranges. Our fact sheet marks it as often refusing virtual numbers, after failed orders of our own.
  • One number, one account. A number that already sits on a Hinge profile will not open a second one.
  • Hinge may ask again. It can request the number later, for example on a new phone, and it does not let you change the number on an account.

If you only need the code once

For a quick look at the app, a temporary number can carry the sign-up code. Pick a country with a high success rate in the app, since Hinge turns down many ranges. If no text comes within about two minutes, switch to another number for free instead of pressing resend, so you do not run into the 24-hour lock.

Common questions

Why is Hinge not sending my verification code?

Most often the number was typed with an extra trunk digit, the carrier blocks SMS short codes, or too many attempts triggered a lock. Hinge cannot confirm a number by hand.

How long is the Hinge verification lock?

After a run of failed attempts you must wait at least 24 hours before trying again. Hinge support cannot shorten it.

Can I create a Hinge account without a phone number?

No. Hinge requires a verified mobile number for every account. Apple or Google login can only be added afterwards.

Can I change the phone number on my Hinge account?

No. Hinge does not allow it. If you lost the old number, support can delete the account so you can sign up again with a new one.

No code, no charge

You do not pay for a number that brought no code. If nothing arrives, cancel the order in the app; the payment is refunded as soon as the cancellation is confirmed. While it is being checked, the amount stays reserved rather than spent.

Cancelling is possible after a short wait at the start of an order — a number needs a moment before it can be reached at all, and a cancellation in the first seconds would be refused anyway.

If a number has already received one code and you need a second one, you can ask for another SMS on the same number. That is a separate, chargeable attempt and it is not refunded even if no second code arrives; the app shows what it costs before you confirm. There is no subscription: you pay per number, never per minute and never per month.

What this is not for

Do not use these numbers for banks, payment services, wallets or crypto exchanges. Those are excluded — and an account resting on a number that is not permanently yours is an account you can lose. The same goes for anything you need access to for years: government portals, tax accounts, insurance. A temporary number is for a one-off confirmation, not a lasting key to something important.
