Bumble without a phone number? Not quite. Here is how it works.

Every active Bumble account has a number behind it. Your matches never need to see it.

No code? Your money comes back.

You cannot use Bumble without a phone number: Bumble links every active account to one, even if you signed up with Facebook or Apple. The code comes by SMS, or by an automated call where you type the last six digits of the calling number. What you can control is who else gets your number, and in Bumble that can be nobody.

How Bumble uses your phone number

Bumble asks for the number on the first screen after you install the app. It uses it to confirm that a real person is behind the profile and as a way to log in, which is why it can ask for a fresh code later.

Signing up without one

Phone number needed?

Apple IDYes, Bumble asks you to confirm one

Bumble's help calls phone verification a required step for every active account.

So the real choice is not number or no number, but which number. If you would rather not tie a dating profile to your main SIM, a second number does the job. Bumble checks numbers strictly and asks again later, so a second number you keep is the stable option.

Code not arriving

  1. Check number and country code A wrong country code is the most common reason the text goes nowhere.
  2. Wait a few minutes Then tap "didn't get an SMS" or "didn't get the call", whichever Bumble shows.
  3. Reset the connection Restart the phone, or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  4. Contact support Through the Help Hub in the app or by e-mail. Bumble has no phone support.

Keeping your number from matches

  • Talk in the app. Bumble's voice and video calls work after a match, without either of you sharing a number.
  • Share your Bumble handle instead of a number when someone wants to find your profile (currently US members on iOS only).
  • Give out your number when you choose, usually after a video call and before meeting in person, not before.
  • No caller from Bumble needs a code. Bumble only calls automatically for verification and never rings you about bans, payments or "security checks".

Common questions

Can you use Bumble without a phone number?

No. Bumble requires every active account to be linked to a phone number. Signing up with Facebook or Apple only moves the number check to a later screen.

Why did Bumble call me instead of texting?

You chose, or were offered, call verification. You do not need to answer: enter the last six digits of the number that called you.

Can matches see my phone number on Bumble?

Bumble lets you chat and make voice or video calls inside the app without exchanging numbers. Your number reaches a match only if you give it to them.

How do I change the number on my Bumble account?

Set up a second login method first. Then go to Settings → Security and Privacy → Ways you can log in → Phone Number → Change number, and verify the new one.

No code, no charge

You do not pay for a number that brought no code. If nothing arrives, cancel the order in the app; the payment is refunded as soon as the cancellation is confirmed. While it is being checked, the amount stays reserved rather than spent.

Cancelling is possible after a short wait at the start of an order — a number needs a moment before it can be reached at all, and a cancellation in the first seconds would be refused anyway.

If a number has already received one code and you need a second one, you can ask for another SMS on the same number. That is a separate, chargeable attempt and it is not refunded even if no second code arrives; the app shows what it costs before you confirm. There is no subscription: you pay per number, never per minute and never per month.

What this is not for

Do not use these numbers for banks, payment services, wallets or crypto exchanges. Those are excluded — and an account resting on a number that is not permanently yours is an account you can lose. The same goes for anything you need access to for years: government portals, tax accounts, insurance. A temporary number is for a one-off confirmation, not a lasting key to something important.
