GuidesWhen the code does not arrive

Amazon OTP not received? First find out which code it is.

Amazon sends three kinds of one-time codes. Each one goes somewhere different.

No code? Your money comes back.

OTP means one-time password: a short code that works once. Amazon uses one to confirm a sign-in, one for 2-Step Verification, and one for some deliveries. When your Amazon OTP is not working or not arriving, check which of the three you need, then whether your phone blocks Amazon's short code.

Which code Amazon is sending

Where it comes fromWhat it does
Security code at sign-inText to the mobile number on your accountConfirms a sign-in or an account change
2-Step Verification codeText message or an authenticator app, whichever you choseNeeded together with your password at every new sign-in
Delivery one-time passwordE-mail on the day of delivery, and Your Orders in the Amazon appYou read it to the driver to receive certain parcels

A delivery code is never needed to sign in, and a sign-in code is never needed at the door.

More about Amazon numbers

Amazon OTP not arriving: what to check

  1. Check the number on the account In Your Account, open Login & security and compare the mobile number with the phone in your hand.
  2. Select Resend Code once Then wait. A string of requests in a row tends to slow delivery down rather than speed it up.
  3. Unblock 35213 on iPhone Go to Settings → Apps → Messages, make sure SMS is on, and remove 35213 from Blocked Contacts if it is listed.
  4. Allow premium texts on Android In Settings → Apps → Special access, set Use Premium Text Message Services to Always allow for your messaging app.
  5. Ask your carrier about short codes If nothing helps, ask your mobile provider to enable short-code SMS on your line.

Switching to a call or another method

On the 2-Step Verification screen, Amazon offers a link called Didn't Receive the Code. Use it to pick a backup method you registered earlier, such as an authenticator app, or to sign in from a device Amazon already trusts.

  • Authenticator app: the most reliable choice, since it works without any text message.
  • Backup method: a second number or app you added under Login & security.
  • Account recovery: if nothing else works, choose Two-Step Verification Account Recovery under Didn't Receive the Code and follow the identity check.

The delivery OTP, briefly

For some parcels the driver asks for a one-time password before handing it over. Amazon e-mails it on the day of delivery and shows it in Your Orders in the app. At the door, the driver can trigger a resend, which brings the same code again by text, e-mail and app notification.

Updating the number on your account

Amazon asks for the number again when it wants to confirm a sign-in, so the number on your account should be one you will keep. Change it under Your Account → Login & security while you can still sign in.

A temporary number does not suit an Amazon account you shop with for years: it serves one code and is then gone. It can make sense where a one-off confirmation is all you need, and the app shows each country's success rate before you pay.

Common questions

What does OTP mean on Amazon?

One-time password: a short code that is valid once. Amazon uses it for sign-in checks, 2-Step Verification and some deliveries.

Why is my Amazon OTP not working?

Check that it is the latest code and the right kind: a delivery code will not sign you in, and an older code may no longer count once a newer one has been sent. Request one fresh code and enter it straight away.

Which number does Amazon send codes from?

In the US, Amazon's help pages name the short code 35213. If it is blocked on your phone, the texts never show up.

Where do I find my Amazon delivery OTP?

In the e-mail Amazon sends on delivery day and under Your Orders in the Amazon app.

No code, no charge

You do not pay for a number that brought no code. If nothing arrives, cancel the order in the app; the payment is refunded as soon as the cancellation is confirmed. While it is being checked, the amount stays reserved rather than spent.

Cancelling is possible after a short wait at the start of an order — a number needs a moment before it can be reached at all, and a cancellation in the first seconds would be refused anyway.

If a number has already received one code and you need a second one, you can ask for another SMS on the same number. That is a separate, chargeable attempt and it is not refunded even if no second code arrives; the app shows what it costs before you confirm. There is no subscription: you pay per number, never per minute and never per month.

What this is not for

Do not use these numbers for banks, payment services, wallets or crypto exchanges. Those are excluded — and an account resting on a number that is not permanently yours is an account you can lose. The same goes for anything you need access to for years: government portals, tax accounts, insurance. A temporary number is for a one-off confirmation, not a lasting key to something important.
