Airbnb verification code: how it works, who sees your number.

Airbnb checks your number before you book or list, and shares it once a stay is confirmed.

No code? Your money comes back.

The Airbnb verification code is a 4-digit code that Airbnb texts to your phone to confirm the number on your account. Guests have to verify a number before booking and hosts before listing. Once a reservation is accepted, Airbnb shows every number on your account to the other side, so the number you verify is the number your host or guest gets.

Why Airbnb verifies your phone

A verified number is one of the checks that lets hosts and guests trust a booking. Airbnb asks for it at the points where that trust matters: before a guest books and before a host lists a home.

More about Airbnb numbers

Code by text or call

  1. Open Personal information On the website: Profile → Account → Personal information. Next to Phone number, choose Edit.
  2. Choose the country Pick the country and its code from the list, then type the area code and number without a leading zero.
  3. Tap Verify Airbnb texts a 4-digit code to the number.
  4. Enter the code Type it on the same page. If it is refused, request one new code and use only that one.

Airbnb can also use a phone call for some checks. Where calling is not available, Airbnb shows "This verification method is not currently supported in your location" and points you to text or WhatsApp instead.

Who sees your number and when

Airbnb shares numbers at one moment: when a host accepts a reservation. From then on, the host sees all phone numbers on your account, and you see the host's.

  • Remove old numbers from Personal information if you do not want a host to have them. All of them are shared, not just the main one.
  • Keep the conversation in Airbnb messages. It stays on record and you never need to text a stranger.
  • Use a number you keep for bookings. Airbnb asks for the number again, and a host may need to reach you on arrival day.

Common questions

What is the Airbnb verification code?

A 4-digit code that Airbnb sends by text to confirm a phone number. You type it into the Phone number field under Personal information.

Can I book on Airbnb without verifying a phone number?

No. Airbnb requires guests to verify a phone number before booking and hosts before listing.

Does the host see my phone number?

Yes, once the reservation is accepted. Airbnb then shows every phone number on your account to the host, and theirs to you.

Can I verify Airbnb with a virtual number?

Sometimes. Airbnb says most VoIP numbers may not get its code, and it asks for the number again later. A temporary number can pass a one-off check, but for bookings a number you keep is the safer choice.

No code, no charge

You do not pay for a number that brought no code. If nothing arrives, cancel the order in the app; the payment is refunded as soon as the cancellation is confirmed. While it is being checked, the amount stays reserved rather than spent.

Cancelling is possible after a short wait at the start of an order — a number needs a moment before it can be reached at all, and a cancellation in the first seconds would be refused anyway.

If a number has already received one code and you need a second one, you can ask for another SMS on the same number. That is a separate, chargeable attempt and it is not refunded even if no second code arrives; the app shows what it costs before you confirm. There is no subscription: you pay per number, never per minute and never per month.

What this is not for

Do not use these numbers for banks, payment services, wallets or crypto exchanges. Those are excluded — and an account resting on a number that is not permanently yours is an account you can lose. The same goes for anything you need access to for years: government portals, tax accounts, insurance. A temporary number is for a one-off confirmation, not a lasting key to something important.
