Spanish phone numbers: +34 and nine digits.

No leading zero, no area code to drop. Spain keeps it simple.

No code? Your money comes back.

A Spanish phone number is +34 followed by nine digits, and mobile numbers start with 6 or 7. Spain has no trunk zero, so the number looks the same at home and abroad, just with or without +34. To get one from outside Spain you can buy a Spanish SIM or eSIM, or use a temporary Spanish number when all you need is one verification code.

From Spain's national numbering plan as published in the BOE and by the regulator CNMC. Other first digits belong to landlines and special services.

The national number is always nine digits. There is no 0 in front to remove, which makes Spanish numbers one of the easier formats to enter in a sign-up form.

Writing it correctly in apps and forms

Right or wrong

One field: +34 612 345 678Right
Spain selected, then 34 612 345 678Wrong: 34 is counted twice
0034 612 345 678Works for dialling from some countries, but forms want the plus sign

The digits are placeholders. Spaces are optional; most forms remove them.

Other countries' rules side by side: phone number with country code.

Getting a Spanish number when you are not in Spain

Spanish SIM or eSIM
A real mobile line. Spanish networks ask for identification when you register a SIM, so plan for that.
Your existing Spanish number
Keep it active with roaming on, and verification texts reach you abroad.
Internet calling number
Useful for calls. Many sign-up forms refuse it for codes.
Temporary Spanish number
One code within ten minutes, then it closes. No SIM, no contract, no identification.

Common questions

How many digits does a Spanish phone number have?

Nine, without the country code. With it, +34 and nine digits.

Do Spanish mobile numbers start with 6?

Most do. Newer mobile numbers start with 71 to 74.

Is a Spanish number starting with 7 a real mobile?

Yes. The 71 to 74 blocks were opened for mobile phones because the 6 range was running out. A sign-up form should treat them like any other Spanish mobile.

Is there a 0 to remove after +34?

No. Spanish numbers have no trunk zero, so you write all nine digits after +34.

How can I get a Spanish number for WhatsApp or Telegram?

For an account you keep, a Spanish SIM or eSIM. For the sign-up code only, a temporary Spanish number works if the app accepts it.

Can a temporary Spanish number take a call?

No. It receives text messages only, so choose the SMS option if an app offers to call you with the code.

No code, no charge

You do not pay for a number that brought no code. If nothing arrives, cancel the order in the app; the payment is refunded as soon as the cancellation is confirmed. While it is being checked, the amount stays reserved rather than spent.

Cancelling is possible after a short wait at the start of an order — a number needs a moment before it can be reached at all, and a cancellation in the first seconds would be refused anyway.

If a number has already received one code and you need a second one, you can ask for another SMS on the same number. That is a separate, chargeable attempt and it is not refunded even if no second code arrives; the app shows what it costs before you confirm. There is no subscription: you pay per number, never per minute and never per month.

What this is not for

Do not use these numbers for banks, payment services, wallets or crypto exchanges. Those are excluded — and an account resting on a number that is not permanently yours is an account you can lose. The same goes for anything you need access to for years: government portals, tax accounts, insurance. A temporary number is for a one-off confirmation, not a lasting key to something important.
