imo asks once, on the first screen. After that, the number mostly stays out of sight.

No code? Your money comes back.

Your imo verification code is a short numeric code that imo texts to the number you enter on the registration screen when you first open the app. Type it in and the number becomes your account. If the code does not arrive, check the country code, your signal and your SMS filters. imo will never ask you to send that code to anyone.

How imo verifies your number

  1. Open imo for the first time The registration screen asks for your country and phone number.
  2. Receive the code by SMS A text with your imo verification code arrives on that number.
  3. Enter it and set up your profile The number is now your imo account. You will rarely be asked for it again on the same phone.

Signing up with a number from another country

The registration screen lets you pick any country, and our fact sheet lists imo among the services that usually accept virtual numbers. That suits people who keep in touch with family abroad.

  • Choose the number's country, not your location, on the registration screen.
  • Think about the long term: imo recommends deleting the account if you lose the SIM, so use a number you will keep for an account you care about.
  • For a one-off sign-up without your own number, a temporary number receives the code; the app shows the success rate per country before you pay.

Common questions

What is an imo verification code?

A short numeric code imo sends by SMS when you register. It proves the number belongs to you.

Why am I getting imo verification codes I didn't request?

Someone entered your number in imo. Do not share the code; nothing happens unless it is typed in.

Can I use one number for two imo accounts?

No. Each phone number is one imo account.

My imo login is blocked. Is that a code problem?

Usually not. imo's FAQ ties blocked logins to its community guidelines, and lets you appeal by e-mail with the blocked number in international format.

How do I recognise the real imo team?

Official imo accounts, such as imo team or imo support team, carry an official badge on their profile and contact you inside imo. They still never ask for your code.

No code, no charge

You do not pay for a number that brought no code. If nothing arrives, cancel the order in the app; the payment is refunded as soon as the cancellation is confirmed. While it is being checked, the amount stays reserved rather than spent.

Cancelling is possible after a short wait at the start of an order — a number needs a moment before it can be reached at all, and a cancellation in the first seconds would be refused anyway.

If a number has already received one code and you need a second one, you can ask for another SMS on the same number. That is a separate, chargeable attempt and it is not refunded even if no second code arrives; the app shows what it costs before you confirm. There is no subscription: you pay per number, never per minute and never per month.

What this is not for

Do not use these numbers for banks, payment services, wallets or crypto exchanges. Those are excluded — and an account resting on a number that is not permanently yours is an account you can lose. The same goes for anything you need access to for years: government portals, tax accounts, insurance. A temporary number is for a one-off confirmation, not a lasting key to something important.
